Farr Associates is growing and we’re seeking two energetic folks join our team!

Projects in our architecture studio include high-performance buildings of all types including commercial, residential, institutional, and affordable housing in both new-build, renovation, and preservation contexts.

These positions are primarily in-person at our Downtown Chicago office with remote work allowed.

  • About the Position:

    A Project Architect develops the design, drawings, specifications, and documents for a construction project, based on the client’s needs, budget, and applicable regulations. He or she coordinates the work of other consultants, such as engineers, contractors, and suppliers, to ensure the project meets the design intent, quality standards, and deadlines. A Project Architect may also supervise Designers in production of a shared deliverable. A Project Architect may assist the Project Manager in documentation review, redlining drawings for both internal and external staff.

    A Project Architect should be able to balance 1-3 projects at a time depending on size and scope. Additionally, architecture includes many technical skills and Project Architects may have areas of specialty, like construction methods, certain codes, building types, and end user profiles. 

    About You:

    • Degree in architecture, urban design, urban planning or a related field*

    • 5+ years of work experience

    • Architecture License or other advanced certification and advanced training in your field

    • Shares our vision for sustainable, socially equitable, and economically-viable design

    • Able to communicate effectively in all mediums, internally and externally

    • Ability to travel locally to project sites

    Desired Skills:

    • Knowledge of architectural design principles, methods, and standards

    • Possess interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

    • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and best practices

    • Documented work in Construction Administration

    • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and contractors

    • Adaptability to solve problems creatively and analytically

    • Proficient in Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Suite

  • About the Position:

    A Project Manager leads, manages, and oversees projects through all phases on a day-to-day basis. He or she creates project schedules, allocates resources, and drafts financial and staffing plans for the project. Project Managers internally monitor project progress, including meeting all milestones and deliverables, whether contractual or as part of the firm’s QA/QC process. He or she has a solid understanding of the production and methods of their deliverables to be able to produce work related to the project.

    Externally, he or she communicates with clients and stakeholders to keep them updated on the project’s progress, coordinates client meetings, and manages client expectations. A Project Manager should be comfortable in field and managing the construction process to ensure compliance with the design intent.

    About You:

    • 8+ years of work experience

    • Architecture License or other advanced certification and advanced training in your field

    • Shares our vision for sustainable, socially equitable, and economically-viable design

    • Able to communicate effectively in all mediums, internally and externally

    • Ability to travel locally to project sites

    • Manage multiple projects at various stages of development

    • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and best practices

    • Documented work in Construction Administration

    • Work independently or as part of a team

    • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and contractors

    • Adaptability to solve problems creatively and analytically

    • Proficient in Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Suite

    • Other 3D modeling and/or rendering capabilities are a plus
