Raising the Bar in Park Ridge
New Documents Guide Future Development
Farr Associates worked closely with the City of Park Ridge Community Preservation and Development Staff, who had a clear vision for where to take their three-decades old Urban Design Guidelines and draft Uptown Master Plan.
However, they needed documents to sell the project, make guidelines clear for broad audiences, and a communication style for the next wave of planning documents.
Farr Associates produced two documents—adopted by City Council in 2024 and 2025—to help guide the development of all residential development city-wide and all development in the Uptown District of Park Ridge.
Client: City of Park Ridge

— Drew Awsumb, Director, City of Park Ridge Community Preservation & Development
Uptown Master Plan Update
This important update serves as the community’s “playbook,” outlining goals and objectives for Uptown over the next 5-10 years. The plan is based on technical analysis, community feedback, and policy direction from the City's elected and appointed officials.
The updated plan focuses on improving Uptown’s connectivity, public spaces, and existing infrastructure, providing a clear vision for Park Ridge’s anticipated growth.
Urban Design Guidelines
This document updates the 1991 Urban Design Guidelines booklet and provides a comprehensive resource to the Appearance Commission in helping architects, builders, home, and business owners to maintain the city’s character while enhancing urban design and architectural quality as development continues.
These guidelines ensure Park Ridge maintains a high standard of urban design that aligns with its evolving vision for growth and development.
