Green Oaks Biological Field Station
An Eco Space to Support Year-Round Research & Recreation
Farr Associates was selected to design the Knight Living & Learning Center at Knox College aka Green Oaks Biological Field Station.
The center is the newest addition to the Green Oaks Prairie Campus, a residential and educational oasis nestled in a copse of trees and adjacent to the Midwest's oldest and most successful prairie restoration.
The center includes classrooms and sleeping spaces for 16 students, central study and living spaces, a small director’s suite, a large kitchen, modern bathrooms, and laundry facilities. The residential area is connected to the academic space with a four-season porch that provides additional flex space for everything from gear storage to study groups and recreation, all with views to its serene environment.
Designed to meet Phius standards, Farr Associates led all aspects of the project, including site work, building systems, furniture selection, and solar panel readiness.
