As a pilot project with the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Neighborhood Development program, this South Chicago neighborhood provides a unique opportunity to score an existing neighborhood with excellent bones as well as plan for the redevelopment of a large, lakefront brownfields site, formerly a US Steel manufacturing plant. The master plan developed includes the requirement of LEED silver buildings for all infill and new development. Former industrial streets, wider than necessary, are designed to infiltrate stormwater and provide green space for the neighborhood.
